I was going through a little bit of a hyper spending state the other day- I do not know why I do it, but all of a sudden I just need to spend money. I know it isn’t smart or responsible but when I get like that it is hard to control.
I decided to look at monthly subscription boxes. I was Googling the different lists of boxes- you name it- they make it! It seems that monthly subscription boxes have become such a huge craze you can get almost anything delivered to your door. One that made me laugh was a section on one site for Condom box subscriptions?!?
As I scanned for my next unnecessary purchase I found one list of Canadian/ American subscription boxes- at the bottom there is a section on Emotional and Mental health. The boxes include the “Be Brave Box” (this is tailored to chronic illness), “Better Box” (covering a range of options including improved sleep and wellness boxes), “Warm Hug Box” (A general feel good box). The one that tipped my curiosity most was the “Caring Crate“.
With 4 subscription options, Caring Crate is perhaps not the cheapest monthly subscription:
- One month Subscription $52.94 CAD ($39.95+ $12.99 P+P)
- Three month Subscription $51.94 CAD ($38.95 + $12.99 P+P)
- Six month Subscription $50.94 CAD ($37.95 + $12.99 P+P)
- Give a gift subscription $52.94 CAD
Janelle Martel, the founder of Caring Crate says:
I personally love subscription boxes, from the feeling of excitement I get when I see a new one on my doorstep, to the awesome feeling of finding a new product I love. I searched and searched for a box that was designed for those with mental health issues or chronic illness, and was shocked when I couldn’t find one, because I think it is something a lot of people could benefit from. So I decided to start one myself!
The box advertises the avoidance of one time use products and the aim to instead focus their subscribers with tools to care for your own well-being by way of 4-5 full size products a month.
I contacted the company for a little bit more information and some statistics on how many subscribers they have. I will update my blog when/ if I hear back. In the mean-time I will order a box and let you know how it goes, what goodies I receive, and if I would suggest it for all demographics/ gifts etc.
If any of you have experience with these subscriptions or know of another box please send your comments and experiences to share with everyone.
